Since 2018 I have been writing short songs and ditties about the plants that I forage and have got to know over the years. I write about their qualities and my relationship to them, about their historical, medicinal or nutritional benefits. Sometimes I sing as if from the perspective of the plant or seaweed.
Songs introduce a different way of relating to wild food and can be a more direct way of learning - appealing to rhythm and joy, while relaying facts and stories.
Foraging with Songs with tasters and fire
Twice a year - in Spring and Autumn - I run foraging courses with songs. I teach in my usual way with the addition of songs about each plant we cover. It's fun and magic and ends around an alfresco fire. You can find the dates and more details here - Wild Singing Walks.
Check out my SoundCloud to hear some of the songs.
