This May coastal and woodland foraging course is held at the lesser known and beautiful woodland of St Loy valley. We will travel through the woodland down to the coast and discover a wonderful range of coastal, woodland and hedgerow plants.

Level of walk: The walk is approximately 2 miles, including muddy areas, a stream to cross, a stile and boulders to navigate (or just sit on) on the beach.

May woodland and coastal foraging course, what to expect;

  • 2-3 mile guided walk with lots of stops and tasters
  • Covering 8-10 wild foods
  • Thorough guidance on plant identification
  • Tried and tested suggestions on cooking, processing tips and lots of recipe ideas
  • Information of nutritional and medicinal benefits, where known (please note I am not a medical herbalist)
  • May include potential mistakes and look-a-like plants
  • Information on legalities, sustainability and safety
  • Opportunity to buy a signed copy of my book/s
  • Opportunity to buy original screen printed gift cards of wild plants and recipe card
  • Follow up email with list of plants covered and links to recipes and more info
  • Homemade tasters made with wild, foraged ingredients, for e.g. 1 or 2 of the following;
      •  - Breads with wild ingredients
        - Wild salsa verde or dips
        - Chocolates with wild ingredients
        - Muffins or cakes with wild ingredients

Other Info:

What to wear: Courses are a mixture of walking and a fair amount of standing around to learn. Please bring/wear layers, a wind proof and weather appropriate clothing. Footwear suitable for muddy paths and crossing streams and that you are confident walking in.

Meet: At the road entrance to St Loy woods, marked with a footpath sign, by a gate, TR19 6DJ - though do not park here (see notes below)

What to Bring: Weather appropriate clothing, layers can be  helpful. Bottle of water or drink, snacks (optional), any personal medication needed, sun lotion, camera, notebook and pen.

Min/Max numbers: 5-10 adults. You are welcome to come alone or with others. Covid regulations apply, please check my terms and government guidelines.

Dogs: Please don't assume you can bring your dog, you may have to make provisions for him/her not to be with you your during the course. Please ask before booking.

Parking and how to get there:

Directions: Take the A30 to Penzance, from Penzance head along the seafront towards Newlyn continuing up the large hill ahead of you (B3315). Staying on this road for 5 miles, follow directions for Lamorna. Ingore the turning for Lamorna Cove, and continue another 2 miles (approx) past the Merry Maidens stone circle on your left. The road will eventually dip down, passing 2 strips of woodland on your left, the second is marked with a footpath sign, and is our meeting point, go up past Trevedran House for parking - map below shows St Loy Camping/Parking field. 

Transport and Car Parks: Just past Trevarden House there is a field marked for parking on the left. Parking is £2 (or was the last time I looked). I suggest to park facing down towards the field entrance, in case it is wet and there's any problem getting out of the field. Lifts available from Penzance, do let me know if you can offer or need a lift.
